Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau Not Interested In Resting Derrick Rose

Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau isn’t interested in resting Derrick Rose if he feels good.

The Chicago Bulls were looking forward to a healthy Derrick Rose this season, to play along side new acquisition Pau Gasol. Of  course it didn’t take long for Rose to injure himself, which is rather tragic given his talent and rash of injuries.

The fortunate news is that the nick he picked up isn’t as serious as the torn ligaments he has suffered in seasons past, just a minor ankle injury, but one that has kept him out of three of the team’s last four games.

Rose has been game-time decisions for each of those games, and for a while will remain so. When asked about Rose’s availability for the next game, Saturday against the Boston Celtics, Thibodeau had an interesting and telling response.

From Nick Friedell of ESPN Chicago:

"“No, no,” Thibodeau said. “We’ll see (Saturday). We’ll see where he is. If he can go, I think he has to go. If he can’t, then he doesn’t. It’s really that simple. It’s the only way he’s going to shake the rust off is getting out there and playing.”"

This thinking is apparently not solely Thibodeau’s either.

"The Bulls’ front office feels the same way. While GM Gar Forman and executive VP John Paxson are hopeful that Thibodeau will keep Rose and Joakim Noah on a minutes limit to start the season, their outlook jives with the head coach’s: If Rose feels good enough to play, then that’s what he should do."

While the Bulls could use Rose on the court, and NBA fans would love to see him playing, you have to wonder if trotting him out there and risking a more severe injury is the right thing to do.
