The New York Yankees are currently in talks with several players they are trying to keep. One of those is outfielder Chris Young. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, both sides are trying to work something out. Young is a nice fit for the Yankees as they have two starting outfielders who hit left-handed. Young is right-handed and the Yankees would like him as a fourth outfielder to provide depth.

Young had a decent season for the Yankees last year, after coming off a poor start with the New York Mets. His average worked out to .222 on the season, but he batted .282 for the Yankees. He had 11 home runs on the year, three with the Yankees and eight with the Mets. His OPS was .876 with the Yankees vs .629 with the Mets.

During the 2013 offseason, Young signed a one year deal with the Mets for $7.25 million. He played 88 games and hit at an awful .205, while striking out 54 times. He was then released in August and eventually picked up by the Yankees. His numbers improved substantially with the Yankees, in nearly every category.

His final numbers on the season aren’t gaudy, but that is primarily due to his disastrous start with the Mets. If Young can continue where he left off in his one month with the Yankees at the end of the 2014 season, he should help New York balance out their lineup and provide some key hits.
