Veteran’s Day is on Tuesday in the United States, and Americans are honoring serviceman around the country this weekend. On ESPN’s College GameDay, the traveling college football pre-game show, they highlighted a particular athlete for the holiday, Clemson wide receiver Daniel Rodriguez.
Before he was playing football in the ACC, Rodriguez was serving in the Army in Afghanistan. He was at a dangerous outpost that was attacked by Taliban, a fight that saw numerous men in his unit lose their lives.
During that firefight, Rodriguez earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
When he came back home, he decided to pursue his dream of playing football. He began to work out, made a recruiting video, and eventually found a home with the Clemson Tigers. It is truly an incredible feel good story about a remarkable young man that is worth watching.
Rodriguez also has a book out that is in the top 10 for football books on Amazon and a movie studio is working on making his story into a featured film, which surely will generate a lot of interest.
