Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has asked for patience from supporters and says he needs three seasons to turn around the Premier League club.
Manchester United are off to their worst start since 1986, sitting in 10th place with 13 points after 10 games. The club parted ways with manager David Moyes late last season for failing to live up to success and finishing well outside the top-four.
They then brought in Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal to replace him, but he hasn’t fared much better this season.
Van Gaal, a heralded coach who has handled some of the biggest clubs in the world like FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax, is asking the fans for patience and point to his track record at those teams.
He also says he’ll need three seasons to get the team turned around.
“We are in a process and that process shall take more than one year,” Van Gaal said, via Sky Sports. “It shall take three years.
“I cannot say when the results are coming. When I did it with Bayern Munich it was December 8. It can be February 1. But it doesn’t matter. This is a process of three years. I have signed for three years.
“It takes a lot of time. But at the end, when they know it and they are doing the things with conscience, the results shall come.
“Our goal (this season) is to get back in the Champions League.”
And if you’re curious for why it’ll take three years, he has an explanation for that as well.
“That is what I have always done at all the clubs. You can listen to the boards of these clubs and what they are saying about me,” he said.
“I am training in another way than most of the other managers are doing. I train them in their brains. Every player has to know why they are doing things on the pitch.”
