Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan sat out the second game of the San Antonio Spurs’ first back-to-back contests on Thursday, but head coach Gregg Popovich said he doesn’t have a set maintenance plan for his two aging stars, and Ginobili and Duncan won’t necessarily sit out every back-to-back.
Duncan, 38, and Ginobili, 37, sat out Thursday’s loss to the Houston Rockets, but with two more back-to-backs this month, including one Monday and Tuesday, Popovich wouldn’t commit to resting his stars every time,
“It just depends on what happens in games as the season moves along,” Popovich said. “It’s never in stone.”
The Spurs are one of the favorites for the Western Conference — and NBA, titles, so resting their stars in a few early games doesn’t seem to be any cause for alarm for San Antonio fans. But the NBA can’t be too happy about Pop resting his stars again on a Thursday night matchup, and against one of the other potential powers in the conference, the Rockets.
