If you didn’t think the No. 6 TCU Horned Frogs were for real before, they once again proved their college football worth Saturday night with a huge 41-20 win over No. 7 Kansas State, putting them in the lead in the Big 12 conference with a 5-1 record and an 8-1 overall record. Gary Patterson and TCU have now beaten every Big 12 team since joining the league in 2012.

TCU junior quarterback continued his breakout all-star season with 219 passing yards and one pass touchdown as well as 193 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Boykin helped the Horned Frogs to 553 total offensive yards, continuing the offensive showcase that TCU has displayed this year, scoring over 40 points per game.

It wasn’t just TCU’s offense that was to brag about Saturday, as their impressive defensive squad stepped up as well allowing just 34 rushing yards and 20 points to a Kansas State team that averages 38.3 points per game.

Kansas State struggled the entire game as senior quarterback Jake Waters wasn’t able to carry the whole team going 20-for-37 with two touchdowns. The running game was dead for Kansas State, who usually benefits from a strong rushing attack, rushing for just 34 yards.

TCU led at the half 17-7 after a couple of big rushing touchdowns by Aaron Green and Trevone Boykin and a Kansas State touchdown throw from Jake Waters to Curry Sexton and the Horned Frogs only kept it going in the second half.

After a Kansas State touchdown from Waters to Tyler Lockett to open the half, two touchdowns followed by TCU on a pass from Boykin to David Porter and then another Boykin rushing touchdown to make the score 31-14, TCU showcasing it’s high powered offense, putting up 31 with over a quarter and a half to play.

After an early fourth quarter field goal, Boykin ran in for his third rushing touchdown of the night to make the score a whopping 41-14 virtually closing out the game for TCU. Kansas State scored once more in garbage time when back up quarterback Joe Hubener put in an impressive drive and capped it off with a six yard touchdown run.

TCU added to their impressive resume of wins against tough Big 12 opponents in beating No. 7 Kansas State, a list that also contains Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State and West Virginia. TCU has proved that it is one of college football’s superior teams thanks to a dominating offense led by Trevone Boykin and a solid defense that has broken the hearts of numerous Big 12 teams this season.

With their 8-1 record, look for TCU to have a real shot at jumping into the college football playoff’s four spot this week with Auburn’s loss. While No. 5-ranked Alabama is still playing against LSU, TCU may have done enough to leap (horned) frog them if you will, and jump into that spot even with an Alabama win. And if not this week, TCU is in the drivers seat to be in the playoff with just Kansas, Texas and Iowa State left of their schedule who are all struggling.
