Buffalo Sabres forward Tyler Ennis tapped an official with his stick in the dying seconds of the team’s game Friday night and now could face a suspension.

As the Buffalo Sabres were wrapping up yet another loss at home to the almost-as-bad Edmonton Oilers, forward Tyler Ennis gave the linesman a little stick tap that hit the official right in the hand. Ennis was issued a game misconduct for intentionally touching an official and now he could face a suspension. Check out the video below.

It’s hard to tell why Ennis skated toward the official after the whistle blew, but we do know that he said something to the official then gave him a little tap in the midsection, where the official’s hand apparently rested. The official waves his hand in pain and thus ends Ennis’ night about one second early.

The official must submit a report to the league so the discipline leveled against Ennis will likely depend on what Ennis said, if anything. If he was making some snide remark about the officiating before lightly swinging his stick, you can expect Ennis to at least miss a game or two for the infraction.

This is just another speed bump in the train wreck that has been the Buffalo Sabres these last two seasons. Ennis is one of the team’s best young forwards, but he can do precious little on a team so devoid of top end talent. The Sabres blew a 2-1 lead against the Edmonton Oilers and were seconds from losing the game 3-2 when Ennis made the zone entry that was called back for offsides. The score would hold even after the call, dropping the Sabres to an NHL-worst 3-10-2 on the season.
