The Alabama Crimson Tide were hoping that they would capitalize on an Ole Miss loss and get into the College Football Playoffs. LSU had plans to spoil that ton Saturday night.

The Alabama Crimson Tide were supposed to challenge the Florida State Seminoles for the national championship this season, but that’s not going to happen — at least not without some serious help. Alabama needed a win to stay in the hunt for the college football playoffs but the LSU Tigers had other plans for that.

It was a game that the Tide needed but the Tigers wanted even more, which was seen in the hard fought defensive game that kept the score close the entire way.

LSU didn’t take the lead back from Alabama until late in the fourth quarter after a goal line stand by the Alabama defense kept the Tigers out of the end zone and forced a field goal. That made the score 13-10, and what happened next was the thing of Alabama legend. The ensuing LSU kickoff went out of bounds and gave the Tide the ball in very excellent field position.

It was one of those moments that makes you hate kickers as the errant kick set up a drive that saw B.J. Sims channel his inner A.J. Macaroni and lead the Tide to a field goal that set up overtime.

The first series of overtime saw Alabama throw in some pretty unique and creative plays to set up a touchdown drive that put the heat on LSU. After looking good the entire game, LSU game up empty on their overtime drive and gave Alabama the win. A critical drop on first down dictated the rest of the play calling and screwed over the Tigers before they could even get ready.

With the win, Alabama will likely move back into the College Football Playoffs thanks to the Ole Miss loss earlier this afternoon. As for LSU, they weren’t able to play spoiler they way they could have, as mistakes late in the game will haunt the players and fans for the rest of the season.
