After only two periods and 22 shots against, the Vancouver Canucks were down by four goals- and netminder Ryan Miller was spending some time on the bench.
The team would ultimately fall 5-1 to the defending Stanley Cup Champions, with Chris Higgins picking up the lone goal for the Canucks in the third period and backup netminder Eddie Lack saving thirteen of the fourteen shots sent his way. Overall, though, the team would leave the ice unhappy- and the Kings would skate away knowing that they’ve finally started to turn their season around.
This isn’t the first time this season that Miller has been pulled mid-game. Head coach Willie Desjardins yanked the veteran netminder early on in the team’s matchup against the Dallas Stars, as well, when Miller allowed five goals on thirteen shots in the first period alone.
Miller may have some elite games, but has now been yanked twice in the first month and a half of the season. The Canucks may have thought he was the answer, but it’s quickly growing clear that he’ll have to step up his game- or the team will have to reevaluate their strategy to see the postseason.
