More from New Orleans Saints

In the NFL, coaches like to call plays. That seems obvious because it is. But you know what else is obvious? The San Francisco 49ers have a quarterback with a huge arm and a wide receiver who can make big plays. So sometimes you don’t really even need to call a play. Just call it “go long” and hit the field.

Down 24-21 to the New Orleans Saints with 1:30 left to play, the 49ers were facing 4th-and-long. That’s when Kaepernick found Crabtree for the long pass and first down to keep his team alive.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure a play was called on this pitch-and-catch. But whatever it was didn’t work. Kaepernick scrambled out of the pocket and Crabtree broke off his shorter route to go deep. That’s when he got wide open and Kaepernick hit him for a big play.

You can watch the video of the play below:

The 49ers ended up kicking a field goal to tie it and go into overtime. Kaepernick isn’t having his best outing, completing just 14 of his 31 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown but getting sacked three times. But this play was huge, and kept them in the game.
