The next college football playoff will have a new team in the top four after the Auburn Tigers were knocked off by the Texas A&M Aggies in their home stadium and their in-state rivals stand to be the beneficiary

When Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings are released the top four will look 25 percent different with No. 3 Auburn losing 41-38 to Texas A&M and their in-state rivals, the Alabama Crimson Tide are projected to move into the top four with the Tigers dropping out after suffering their second loss of the season.

Alabama survived an upset bid from the LSU Tigers but survived after Blake Sims led Alabama to the game-tying field goal with three seconds remaining in overtime and threw the game-winning touchdown in overtime and after the Crimson Tide defense forced a four-and-out from LSU, Alabama’s title hopes remain alive.

The Crimson Tide face a tough test to keep those dreams alive when they host Dak Prescott and the No. 1 Mississippi State Bulldogs next Saturday. The Bulldogs remained undefeated with a win over Tennessee-Martin in a tuneup game before traveling to take on the Tide in a game where they can clinch the SEC west.

No. 2 Florida State defeated Virginia as they join Mississippi State as the lone unbeatens from the Power 5.

The Oregon Ducks were the No. 4 team last week and move up to No. 3 with Alabama sliding up one spot to the No. 4 spot with TCU, Baylor, Arizona State and Ohio State the next four out.

So if the playoff was next week we would have matchups pitting Mississippi State against Alabama and Florida State against Oregon.
