The Florida Panthers have yet to see positive results in attendance to correlate with their improved play

The Florida Panthers may be winning games, but it still seems like no one is there to see it.

More from Calgary Flames

During the team’s matchup against the Calgary Flames on Saturday afternoon, the team set a record for the third-lowest attendance in franchise history with only 9,230 spectators.

Of course, there could be a number of factors related to the poor attendance. Saturday matinees aren’t exactly the most popular games in the first place, and the FSU Seminoles hosted the University of Virginia last night- it’s likely that the college football game drew a much larger crowd in the southern state.

The team had hopes that improved play would see an increase in the number of fans attending games, though, and it seems like that hasn’t happened quite yet. The franchise still has one of the smallest fan bases (or so it would seem), and the attendance numbers have only been getting worse as the season develops. After recording a season home opener attendance rate of just over 11,000, the crowd dropped to a franchise low 7,311 when the Panthers faced off against the Ottawa Senators.

The team’s owner has admitted to losing money on the franchise, but this should be especially concerning to the league as a whole. Even the Arizona Coyotes, who are still deep in the midst of an ownership turnover, have been seeing higher crowds this season. The Panthers need to do something to bring in fans- and apparently, winning isn’t it.
