The Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling coach and former Olympian Tom Brands has had plenty of interviews in his 10 year coaching career but this one might be the best yet.

The media met with the coach on November 6 for their preseason questions and for the most part, Brands answers made sense. However there was this one specfic quote that you can probably spend twenty minutes trying to figure out what it’s supposed to mean. If you can decipher exactly what it is that Brands is trying to say here when asked if he’s excited for the season, you’re probably some kind of genius.
"“I don’t remember not remembering. I remember remembering, meaning I remember, right, and follow that in your head. You can’t unsay what was said in the past, and I remember what was said by and that’s where loyalty comes into play.”"
He also said this right after, which makes it sound like it is code.
"“I’m not talking code and encryption. That’s not encrypted.”"
You can watch the video of his remember quote right here, it’s almost like listening to that drunk guy outside trying to tell you he remembered where his keys are but he still can’t find them. I guess all those years of being thrown or throwing people down on a mat are finally getting to him.
I also love the way he says, “a raving lunatic” right before the remembering quote. There is a transcript from the schools site for the press conference and here it is.
