Veteran forward Rene Bourque has been placed on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens

Rene Bourque has been around the league a while, but fans are growing tired of his lackluster play.

The veteran right winger, who was originally undrafted, has played for the Montreal Canadiens for the past three seasons- and while he made himself immensely valuable for the team during the 2014 NHL playoffs, he hasn’t been quite what the team hoped for to start off this season.

Consequently, the team has placed the 32-year-old, along with his $4 million cap hit, on waivers.

In his last thirteen games, Bourque has posted some of the worst numbers of his career. He has zero goals, two assists, and sits in dead last for the franchise with a minus nine rating.

Under the old CBA, the team could place the winger on waivers and his cap hit would cease to count against the Canadiens- but under the 2013 CBA, the team will still retain part of his salary. The Canadiens must be pretty desperate to get rid of him if they’re still willing to send him down to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

In addition to placing the skater on waivers, the team returned Drayson Bowman to the AHL, and recalled Jarred Tinordi.
