The New York Giants are having another abysmal season that may see the end of Tom Coughlin in the NFL, but his replacement may not stick around either.
In college football, it seems that most successful programs have succession plans in place when it comes time to replace their legendary head coaches. Most recently, Jimbo Fisher replaced Bobby Bowden at Florida State and proceeded to win a national championship. The NFL works a little differently, but the New York Giants are trying their hardest to get a succession plan in place for when Tom Coughlin leaves the job.

With the Giants in position to win nothing more than a middle-of-the-road draft pick this year, the writing is on the wall that COughlin will be out at the end of the year. He’ll either be kindly asked to retire or fired, based on the circumstances, but either way the Super Bowl winning coach has worn out his welcome in New York.
It’s a sad end to a successful coaching era, but while the Giants can have fond memories of the Coughlin era, they need a plan to replace him. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, that replacement is looking to be offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo but there’s no guarantee that he’ll be around to take the job.
"In fact, it can’t if this season continues to free fall — especially if McAdoo’s offense is a big reason why. But the very reason that Giants management sees McAdoo as a future head coach, according to several team sources, is the same reason they all seem to believe he’ll eventually fix the offense. It’s because when the Giants look at their first-year offensive coordinator, they see a lot of the same traits they see in Coughlin."
Macho was receiving head coaching interest last year, as he was a frontrunner for the Cleveland Browns job at one point but never took the position. He’d be a great fit in New York, but the struggles of Eli Manning, a stagnant offense and the reflection of Tom Coughlin may force New York to go in a different direction.
