The New York Jets started Michael Vick and beat a hot Pittsburgh Steelers team. But it is too little, too late for the Jets.

The New York Jets drafted Geno Smith thinking he would be the quarterback of the future. Less than two full seasons later, they realized they were wrong. Very, very wrong. After getting off to a 1-8 start, Rex Ryan finally pulled Smith out as the starter and put in Michael Vick.

What happened? The Jets beat a Steelers team that has been mentioned as a Super Bowl contender in recent weeks 20-13. Vick completed 10 of 18 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns while scrambling for 47 yards. The win assured him another shot to start next week. After the game, Ryan stated the obvious.

Vick came in for Smith last week and did not commit a turnover. This week, he repeated his efficient performance.

The Jets may have found a better answer at quarterback, but as ESPN.com’s Rich Cimini wrote, it’s too late for them to make a playoff run.

"Michael Vick played solid, turnover-free football for the second straight week, affirming what was apparent last week: Ryan waited too long to bench Geno Smith. He should’ve made the change after the loss in San Diego, which dropped the Jets to 1-4 — still time to save the season. Now it’s just window dressing."

However Vick plays, it’s doubtful the Jets view the 34-year-old as the long-term answer. He looks to be a stop gap in a throw-away year in New York. Expect the Jets to address to quarterback position this offseason.
