Give Hunter Niswander credit: he never gave up on the play, even if it was sorta hilariously bad. The Northwestern Wildcats redshirt freshman punter tried to make the best of a bad situation during Saturday’s 10-9 loss to the Michigan Wolverines, when he used his non-kicking foot to punt a ball after he dropped the long snap.
It wasn’t exactly a matchup of juggernauts, as Nothwestern is now 3-6 and Michigan stands even at 5-5, but it was still an impressive salvage on a bad play by Niswander, even if he probably should have just caught the ball to begin with; the punt ended up going for 21 yards, which isn’t great by any means (other than, y’know, kicking with his other leg). But hey, he got the play off!
Niswander was the 12-rated place-kicking prospect coming out of high school, but was redshirted last season. He might need to work on catching snaps, but the kid seems to have a leg if he can do that with his non-kicking foot, so maybe just give him some time.
