The following four words is all Arizona Cardinals fans need to know about the state of quarterback Carson Palmer:

Done. For. The. Year.

A torn ACL is the reported injury for Palmer, who went down in the fourth quarter of the Cardinals’ 31-14 win over the St. Louis Rams. Less than a week after signing a three-year, $50 million contract extension, Palmer’s season is done, while questions about the future of the 34-year-old — who suffered the second torn ACL of his career — are in serious doubt.

Palmer sustained the injury when he was sacked by Mark Barron at the 12:21 mark of the fourth. He originally attempted to walk off the field, yet needed to be held up when it looked like he was about to lose his balance. A cart was required to finally get him off the field. He had completed 25 of 36 passes for 241 yards before the injury.

The 12-year veteran had completed 62 percent of his passes for 1,385 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.

Drew Stanton, who started three games in place of Palmer earlier in the season, came off the bench to complete 3 of 5 passes for 85 yards, including a 48-yard scoring pass to John Brown that gave the Cardinals the lead for good.

Palmer suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee during an AFC Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006 while starting for the Cincinnati Bengals.
