Florida State Seminoles’ quarterback is back in the news and has nothing to do with leading his team to a 34-20 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday, the team’s 25th consecutive win and 22nd with Winston at quarterback.

Instead, it stems from a report that Winston and his high school buddy and former UAB Blazers’ football player Chris Rabb shaved points in the Seminoles 42-31 victory over the Louisville Cardinals. The report suggested Winston tanked the first half of the game – they fell behind 21-0 and trailed 21-7 at the half while Winston through three interceptions, in order to help Rabb win a bet. The Seminoles wound up dominating the second half to take home a 42-31 victory.

Not only did the allegation immediately seem ridiculous, but it seemed nearly impossible. On one of the interceptions, Winston actually ran down field, made the tackle and forced a fumble, giving the Seminoles the ball back (One Florida State site offered plenty of other reasons why the allegations can’t be true by breaking down game film here). Plus, the report came from Incarcerated Bob, maybe the least reliable source there is. He is widely known for reporting rumors without any basis in order to gain notoriety on his website and twitter, which is why this site, along with many others, didn’t pay much attention. Even Clay Travis of Fox Sports, who has been all over Winston and Florida State, knocking them every chance he gets, doesn’t believe the allegations.

TMZ ran with the story that “new reports” about Winston and the allegations surfaced, but didn’t mention what any of the new reports actually were or said. Then, on Sunday, TMZ reported the NCAA was going to be investigating Winston.

TMZ also reported that several of his teammates were “calling BS” on the reports.

Ah, the power of the internet. So many people have grown such a strong disdain for Winston because of the sexual assault he was involved in (he was never criminally charged), the crab legs he stole (or possibly got for free – either way it is stealing) from Publix and his outburst in the Student Union, they will believe any claim that Winston’s done something wrong, no matter how reliable the source is.
