Before the season began, Oklahoma City Thunder star forward Kevin Durant was diagnosed with a Jones Fracture and was projected to miss six-to-eight weeks.
Most thought the Thunder would be able to weather the storm because of the presence of All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook. However, in the Thunder’s second game, Westbrook broke his right hand and had to have surgery to correct the problem. After the surgery, which took place on October 31, Westbrook was projected to miss four-to-six weeks.
Westbrook isn’t happy about the injury but he vows to come back at full strength.
“I missed a shot and tried to come back up and get a rebound and I hit my hand on [teammateKendrick Perkins’] elbow,” Westbrook said via the Associated Press. “I knew I hurt something. I thought I dislocated my finger or something. I couldn’t tell until I got the ball back when I ran back down the court and couldn’t dribble.
“I was already mad once I hit my hand because I knew it wasn’t gonna be good, so I was instantly upset and frustrated. Obviously, I was ready to go and ready to help my team go out and get wins, especially since we were down some guys already. It was frustrating for me, but it’ll be all right. I’ll get back to where I was at.”
This was the fourth different surgery Westbrook has had in the last two years.
In the two games he played in, Westbrook averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 rebounds per game while shooting 41.4% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 93.8% from the charity stripe.
