The Denver Broncos will be without starting running back Ronnie Hillman for two weeks with a mid-foot sprain

Ronnie Hillman will miss two games with a mid-foot sprain, according to the Denver Post, after the starting running back for the AFC West leading Denver Broncos injured his foot in Sunday’s win against the Oakland Raiders.

Hillman stepped into the starting lineup last month when Montee Ball was injured and he thrived in the starting lineup with a pair of 100-yard games in October before slowing down in November before leaving with the injury after six carries for 13 yards in the win against the Raiders. He came back with his ankle heavily taped after limping off the field attempting to make a catch early in the game.

Hillman’s injury opened the door for C.J. Anderson who had 90 yards on 13 carries and made a big play in the passing game with 73 yards on four catches, including a 51-yard touchdown.

Ball is expected to return to the lineup on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams after missing the previous five games with a groin injury.

This could create a conundrum for fantasy football owners as there could be a timeshare situation moving forward, but I’d anticipate Anderson getting the start and the majority of the work this week as Ball works his way back to game shape. What happens when Hillman, Ball and Anderson are all healthy could mean neither running back is going to be much of an asset.

Hillman has 378 rushing yards and three touchdowns with 137 receiving yards and a touchdown on the year.
