Todd Gurley may not start in his return to college football for the Georgia Bulldogs against the Auburn Tigers this week.
The Georgia Bulldogs are excited about bringing running back Todd Gurley back this coming week against Auburn, but there is no guarantee whatsoever that he will start. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel have done an excellent job of taking over the position for Gurley since he was suspended, and head coach Mark Richt doesn’t necessarily want to bench them just because Gurley is coming back to the field.

"“We haven’t even talked about that yet. Obviously, both those guys will play and we’ll see how Sony is doing. I think he came out of the game pretty good, too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more than just Nick and Todd in the ballgame at that running back position. Early in the year we did a good job of giving guys reps and hopefully we can continue to do that.”"
While Richt might have decided who will be his starting running back, it appears that Chubb believes that the job should belong to Gurley.
"“I know I haven’t taken his spot. I am looking forward to Todd getting back on the field and playing with him. I miss him out there. I cannot wait. It will keep all of us fresh and ready to go.”"
Needless to say, there aren’t many running backs that are as talented as Gurley, but Chubb did an excellent job of breaking out and showing just how much potential he has when Gurley was out. Georgia has always been able to fill in for injured or suspended running backs, and they were able to do it last season as well despite not having as much depth at the position.
It will be intriguing to see who ends up getting the starting job and who gets the majority of the reps. Gurley has been working out anticipating a return and he is ready to get back on the field and resume dominating opposing defenses. Richt has a few decisions to make before the game this week, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to realize that Gurley is one of the most talented running backs in the league and that he’s 100 percent ready to get on the field.
More than likely, Gurley is going to end up being the Bulldogs’ starting running back against Auburn. Chubb is going to get a good number of carries and everyone will stay fresh, but the starting job should be Gurley’s.
