Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown was emotional after the team’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons, saying the team’s record ‘hurts’.

After watching a fourth quarter lead evaporate thanks to two of his own interceptions, veteran QB Josh McCown couldn’t help himself any longer. He broke down crying with coaches and family alike. It seems the burden of losing has grown great in Tampa, where the Buccaneers fell to 1-8.

“One and eight,” McCown said via the Tampa Bay Times. “One and eight and, uh, one and eight. You want to give your teammates and the coaches and the fans and your family and everybody here better than that. It just hurts. It hurts.”

It was the fifth time Tampa had blown a fourth quarter lead this season, which is the most in the NFL. McCown had racked up over 300 yards and two touchdowns to get the Bucs a lead, but two late interceptions turned the tides in the Falcons’ favor and ultimately gave Atlanta the win.

“This game, man, you go and prepare with guys ever week, and coaches, and they grind you,” McCown said. “Everybody puts their time in and works so hard. You lay it out there for each other, and when you walk off and come up short week in and week out, it hurts. That’s what hurts.”

The win was the first for Atlanta since their Thursday night 56-14 thrashing of these same Bucs, whose lone win came in stunning fashion at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
