Too Much Being Made Of Kyrie Irving?

The Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten off to a very poor start. Although it has only been five games (they are 2-3), someone has to take the blame, right?

Rather than placing the blame on LeBron James, it seems like Kyrie Irving is taking the heat.

Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders believes a little too much is being made of Irving’s player and that the team just needs time to learn how to play with each other.

“I think everyone needs to slow down a little on what Kyrie Irving is or is not… its not easy to play with as many guys that need the ball as Kyrie does, and he is absolutely trying to be a leader,” Kyler explains. “This is the first time in his career where he’s had to defer to other guys and that is not natural for him. I think way too much is being made about a small sample size.”

James is also going to have to learn to play in a little bit of a different style.

“As for LeBron, you can’t have LeBron do everything,” writes Kyler. “You are seeing him involved in play making a lot more, but you don’t make LeBron the point guard because it makes you feel better, you have to let things find their place. Kyrie will be fine. Things will sort themselves out.”

Irving is averaging 20.0 points, 4.2 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 41.0% from the floor (16.6 shots per game), 30.4% from beyond the arc and 86.2% from the foul line. James is averaging 23.4 points, 6.2 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 41.9% from the field 36.4% from three and 88.6% from the charity stripe.
