If you were betting on which quarterback would throw a pick-six in tonight’s NFL Thursday Night Football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers, you would have put your money down on Mark Sanchez before Cam Newton if you had the least bit of a brain.
Hopefully you didn’t, smarty pants.
Bradley Fletcher jumped a curl route and intercepted Newton’s pass. With a wide-open field in front of him, he took it all the way to the house.
It gets worse for Carolina. At halftime, the Eagles lead the Panthers 31-7. Sanchez has 182 yards and a touchdown while Newton has 146 passing yards and three interceptions.
When Nick Foles went down, it was Sanchez’s time to shine. Many wondered if the Eagles could maintain its high-octane attack with the former Jets butt-fumbler taking snaps. While Chip Kelly is better than relying on Sanchez to lead a scoring attack, the defense is doing its part by picking off Newton three times and taking one to the house. The less work Sanchez has to do, the better, after all.
