McDonald has been active for every game while the case hung over his head, starting all nine games this year for the 49ers, making 15 tackles.

Shortly after the DA absolved him of any wrongdoing and elected not to press any charges after they determined he was restraining his fiancee after she attacked him prompting him to call 911, he issued the following statement, via CSNbayarea.com.

“I appreciate the seriousness of the situation and I understand and respect that law enforcement had a job to do, which is why I cooperated fully with their investigation from beginning to end. I am relieved that the DA’s office has rightfully decided not to file charges. I want to thank everyone who was supportive during this difficult time.”

The 49ers came under fire for allowing McDonald to play while the case was pending while the league was in a firestorm of controversy surrounding the handling of Ray Rice who was initially suspended two games before video of his assault on his then-fiancee, now wife, was made public which resulted him being released by the Baltimore Ravens and given an indefinite suspension, which he’s appealing.
