The Tampa Bay Rays need a new manager after Joe Maddon took the job with the Chicago Cubs and added Barry Larkin and Doug Glanville to the list of managerial candidates.

MLB Hall of Famer and former Cincinnati Reds shortstop Barry Larkin was added to the list of candidates the Tampa Bay Rays will consider as they fill the position left vacant after Joe Maddon opted out of his contract and later was named the manager for the Chicago Cubs.

Larkin has no MLB or minor league coaching experience but he did manage Brazil in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and has had inquiries in the past, notably the Detroit Tigers and expressed interest in the Reds managerial job as well.

The Hall of Famer was one of two former players added to the Rays list of candidates that is now 10 deep after Doug Glanville was added to the list that includes Manny Acta, Kevin Cash, Craig Counsell, Don Wakamatsu, Davey Martinez, Ron Wotus, Raul Inbanez and Charlie Montoyo.

Glanville, 44, played nine years and has no managerial experience and has been working as an analyst for ESPN.

The Rays are the only MLB team with a managerial opening so it could be possible that some of these candidates are names to the staff of whomever is named the team’s skipper.

Who do you think the Rays should hire to replace Maddon who was a two-time American League Manager of the Year and guided the Rays to the World Series in 2008?
