Dan Bylsma is keeping himself ready for any potential jobs that come his way

The Pittsburgh Penguins weren’t the first coach to fire a Stanley Cup-winning coach, and they certainly won’t be the last.

Many believed that Dan Bylsma wasn’t the reason for the nearly annual Pittsburgh choke- but after an entire post-season of blown 3-1 leads, the team’s front office decided that maybe it wasn’t what was on the ice, but he who was coaching it.

It was strange enough seeing Bylsma lose his job over the summer; it was even stranger when he wasn’t picked up by a single NHL team in the interim leading up to the 2014-2015 season. Many were shocked to see a league favorite coach, who has multiple nominations for the Jack Adams coaching award, “awarded annually to the National Hockey League coach ‘adjudged to have contributed the most to his team’s success.'”, starting the season without a job.

As the season unfolds, though, Bylsma isn’t just sitting around- he’s spending his time prepping for the future.

"“I have done a scout on 27 teams to this point,” Bylsma told NHL.com. “I haven’t gotten every team yet, but I’m coaching my son’s team and I’ve been other places where it’s just not possible to sit down and watch all of the games that are going on for that two days or three days. So I haven’t watched every game, but I usually record two games a night and watch a game so I can watch the other games the next morning at some point in time to see what’s happening.”"

The way that some of these teams are doing, it’s not a bad idea- there’s a good chance that jobs will be opening up for Bylsma to start applying for before long.
