An MMQB article reports that friends and trainers, as well as an unnamed former football player, staged an offseason intervention for Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez.

The summer of 2014 presented a crossroads for the career of quarterback Mark Sanchez. His time with the New York Jets was finished, but as is often the case in the NFL, he had to know he’d get another shot as a backup with another team. If he failed at his next stop, he’d likely be done in the league. So far so good after Sanchez impressed with the Philadelphia Eagles in a Monday Night Football win over the Carolina Panthers which saw Sanchez look cool, collected and most importantly accurate.

Sanchez’s longtime trainer, Todd Norman, credited a summer intervention for the change in appearance and attitude of Sanchez, saying the incident woke up Sanchez and prompted him to work hard and get back in NFL shape after missing the 2013 season with injury.

“It is one thing for me to say certain things to Mark as his trainer and his friend,” Norman told MMQB, “but I wanted him to hear from someone else. A pro athlete who has been in the game for a long time, made a lot of money and had a lot of success. Not even a football player. Just someone outside of his immediate world. Someone Mark has respect for.”

While that former player wasn’t named, the intervention clearly had an impact. Sanchez shaved his beard and cut his hair, got into the best shape of his life, and showed us all exactly what he can do when he’s healthy and prepared.

“I told him, ‘Look, you might get one more opportunity,’ ” Norman said. “This was a defining offseason for him. This was a situation where you either break through or go downhill from here. And I tell you what, I’ve seen him go through so much stuff in his career, I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to quit football.”

Instead of quitting though, it appears Sanchez has found a home in Philadelphia. For now anyways, Mark Sanchez is back in the NFL and likely headed back to the playoffs.
