Lookie here….guess who may actually work for his paycheck on Sunday?
Why, that would be Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, the first overall pick of this past May’s draft who has missed six of the team’s nine games with a torn meniscus and Instagram Finger an illness. Clowney worked out on Wednesday, and it was enough to give coach Bill O’Brien reason to feel optimistic about Clowney’s status.
Clowney has just two tackles to his credit thus far.
Not only did Clowney make progress, the Texans also got good news as linebacker Brian Cushing also worked out after missing the last two games with the remnants of an ACL and MCL injury along with a broken fibula sustained in the last two seasons.
“I thought they moved around pretty well,” O’Brien said. “I still would put them in that day-to-day category, we’ll see how they feel in the morning. … Definitely looks good that they would have a shot to play Sunday.”
Both will be a welcome presence to a 4-5 Texans team that has lost four of their last five after jumping out to a 3-1 start. Despite the play of All-Pro defensive end J.J. Watt, Houston’s defense has allowed 30 or more points in three of their last four games, all losses. The Texans are ranked 26th in overall defense heading into Sunday’s game at the Cleveland Browns.
