After playing in just 39 games in the 2011-2012 season, Rose did not play in a game the following season and played in just 10 a year ago. Rose played with Team USA in Spain and helped win a gold medal in the FIBA World Cup.
However, since the season began, Rose has played in just four of eight games and has drawn plenty of criticism for sitting out certain games.
His head coach, Tom Thibodeau has come to his defense.
“The bottom line is this; he’s injured, he had two sprained ankles so he did the right thing,” Thibodeau explained. “And when he’s better he’ll play. It’s really that simple. We keep going back to the same thing. If he’s injured, sit. If he’s healthy play.”
Thibodeau doesn’t want him worrying about anything else.
“I just want him to keep building, put a string of games together, keep working, that’s all I want him thinking about,” said Thibodeau. “Thinking about the team, how we’re going to win and that’s it. Everything he does is scrutinized and I think he understands that. Just keep grinding. He’s got to play, that’s the bottom line.”
Rose is coming off of his best game – he scored 24 points and dished out seven assists in a 102-91 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Monday.
