NBA star Carmelo Anthony could only watch helplessly and in horror as his New York Knicks teammate J.R. Smith missed a game-winning buzzer-beater against the Orlando Magic.

In the NBA (and most sports, really), if the game is on the line, you want your best offensive player taking the game-winning shot.

For the New York Knicks, it’s hard to argue that the best offensive player is anyone other than Carmelo Anthony, but Melo can’t take all the shots.

J.R. Smith needs to get his shots in, but sometimes shots don’t fall.

Unfortunately, Smith chose a pretty crappy time to get trigger-happy, and seemed to airball the potential game-winner against the Orlando Magic, with Anthony open on the wing.

The sad music added by the Vine poster is pretty perfect, as Anthony’s exasperated “I’m open!” gesture and look pretty much sum up the tale for every Knicks fan after this game.

It’s not like Smith can’t hit a shot, or hasn’t taken a worse look in his life, but the Knicks weren’t able to avoid their sixth-straight loss as a result of Smith’s misfire, and honestly, if I’m Anthony, I’m pulling Smith aside after the game and letting him know who’s should be taking the important shots.
