ESPN College Football Challenge Picks for Week 12
By Mike Marteny
For those of you that don’t know, ESPN College Football Challenge is the closest you can get to college fantasy football on ESPN. You get to comprise a roster of two quarterbacks, two running backs, two wide receivers, a team kicker, and a team defense. The scoring is very similar to NFL scoring.

Here are my picks for week 12:
Nov 8, 2014; Fort Worth, TX, USA; TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Trevone Boykin (2) runs up the tunnel after the game against the Kansas State Wildcats at Amon G. Carter Stadium. TCU beat Kansas State 41-20. Mandatory Credit: Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports
Quarterbacks:
Trevone Boykin, TCU: He plays a Kansas defense that has been solid this year, but with Marcus Mariota and Bryce Petty on bye, he seems like a good bet this week. I trust Boykin more than Dak Prescott against Alabama or Jameis Winston at Miami.
Rakeem Cato, Marshall: The Herd get their toughest test of the season in Rice, but Cato is still far more talented that anyone Rice has. Look for another big game from Cato.
Honorable mention: Brandon Doughty vs. Army; Cody Fajardo at Air Force
Stay away: Dak Prescott at Alabama; Jameis Winston at Miami(FL)
Running Backs:
Tevin Coleman, Indiana: Rutgers got gouged by Melvin Gordon and Ameer Adbullah earlier this year. Expect Coleman to rack up well over 100, and even come close to 200 yards in this one.
James Conner, Pittsburgh: For as talented as North Carolina’s offense is, their defense is as bad as the offense is good. Pitt will try to control the clock with Conner to keep the ball away from Marquise Williams and the Tarheel offense. He should get a large workload on Saturday, and end up with a lot to show for it.
Honorable mention: Todd Gurley vs. Auburn; Jarvion Franklin vs. Eastern Michigan
Stay away: Leonard Fournette at Arkansas; T.J Yeldon vs. Mississippi State
Nov 8, 2014; Baton Rouge, LA, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Amari Cooper (9) celebrates after a touchdown against the LSU Tigers during the second quarter of a game at Tiger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
Wide Receivers:
Amari Cooper, Alabama: I’m not going to be the guy that doesn’t play him, no matter what the matchup looks like on paper.
Tony Lippett, Michigan State: Maryland has given up a ton of big plays this year, and if Sparty stretches the field, it will be with Lippett. With Sterling Shepard likely out again and Rashard Higgins and Nelson Spruce on bye, Lippett seems to be the next best option.
Honorable mention: Sammie Coates at Georgia; Jaelen Strong at Oregon State
Stay away: Pharoh Cooper at Florida; Josh Reynolds vs. Missouri
Kickers:
Utah at Stanford; Florida State at Miami
Defense:
TCU: Don’t let last week fool you. Kansas’s offense is still a mess. They will look even more so against the stout TCU defense.
Honorable mention: Utah State vs. New Mexico; Utah at Stanford
Stay away: Mississippi State at Alabama; Marshall vs. Rice
