Fantasy Football: Keep An Eye On Texans QB Ryan Mallett In Dynasty Leagues

Ryan Mallett has been named the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans, and a lot of fantasy-footballers who play in deep dynasty leagues have been waiting for Mallett to get his opportunity since his rookie season. I don’t own Mallett currently in any leagues, but I have been following Mallett ever since he was playing for the University of Michigan. There’s a lot to like about Mallett, but what really grabbed fantasy owner’s attention when he entered the NFL was that he was Tom Brady’s backup. The appeal of having the heir apparent to Tom Brady and his high powered offense is salivating.

Mallett is a big quarterback, 6’6 245 lbs and he has a big arm to go with the size. He has elite arm strength, which helps him hit WRs down the field. His weaknesses is that he struggles at making the correct decisions and he’s very inconsistent. He will look great one play and horrible on the next one.

Mallett is stepping into a good situation. He has wide receivers Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins to throw to and a solid run game led by Arian Foster. If Mallett can minimize his mistakes and get the ball to his playmakers, there is a chance that Mallet could land you high end QB 2 to low end QB 1 production.

Mallett’s Fantasy Value:
Week 11 Mallett will face a tall order in the Browns defense that decimated Bengals QB Andy Dalton last week. You can’t start Mallett this week unless you are absolutely desperate because you don’t know what your going to get out of him and he has a tough match up against the Browns. I recommend stashing Mallett on your roster and seeing what happens, or just add him to your watch list and snag him off the waiver wire if you like what you see out of him.
