Bungie has detailed a handful of new updates that will be coming to the Iron Banner as the mode is opened in Destiny once again in the coming days.
Bungie took some heat for the way that the Iron Banner played out the first time it made an appearance in Destiny. This time around, the team has taken steps to ensure the experience is different, and more along the lines it was promised to be. The Iron Banner will not be for the faint of heart however.

Addressed in its weekly update, Bungie notes that the Iron Banner and Lord Saladin will be returning with some notable changes as well. No longer will the Iron Banner be open to everyone, and should you decide to step foot in the event, you best be doing so with the idea that it will take some considerable skill and gear to compete.
Bungie outlined the changes in their latest post:
"Power. Does. Matter! (no, really)Only players Level 20 and above can lead a FireteamPlayers below Level 20 can accompany more powerful friendsPlayers within 3 Levels can be competitive with each otherYour DEFENSE rating affects how you take damageWear your best (highest rated) armorPlayers out of your league will seem like a BossYour ATTACK rating affects how you inflict damageEquip your best (highest rated) weaponsLower-level players wielding fully-upgraded weapons should still be considered a very credible threat!Claim victory to gain reputation.Lord Saladin now has five ranks to obtain through victoryYour previous Iron Banner rank has been preservedThe Tempered buff is a twelve-hour boost in reputation gainsActivate Tempered later during the event to catch up fasterAcquire exclusive Iron Banner rewards.Increase your Rank to unlock better gearReforge weapons to reset progression with new perksEarn gauntlets and boots to move you closer to Level 30See Lord Saladin for details!Quitters never win.Reputation gains are only awarded only to the winnersDefeat grants a token to be redeemed after a future winYou can carry up to five Iron Medallions at any timePartial reputation gains are earned instantly upon victoryStrike while the Iron is hot.Your reputation will be reset at the conclusion of this Iron BannerLike any competitive activity, each new event is a chance to regain your standing"
Bungie goes on to note that there may be less than 24 hours of advanced notice when it comes to the next deployment of the Iron Banner. Make sure to stay tuned for those looking to compete the next time around.
It also sounds like gamers that have preordered the DLC packages together may be gifted a unique Sparrow in the game as well.
