Hilliard began the season as the team’s starting running back but has since been passed on the depth chart by freshman phenom and last year’s No. 1 overall recruit, Leonard Fournette, and is third on the team in rushing with 434 yards and six touchdowns on 87 carries.
The loss of Hilliard means more work for Fournette who leads the team in rushing with 736 yards and seven touchdowns on 156 carries and Terrence Magee who is second on the team in rushing — as he was last year behind Jeremy Hill — has 81 carries for 447 yards and three touchdowns.
Fournette has come on strong in the last six weeks and has carries the ball at least 20 times in three of the last four games for the Bayou Bengals, so he’s shown teh ability to carry a heavy load, which he’ll have to do without Hilliard to complement him and Magee.
Fellow freshman Darrel Williams could see increased playing time as well as the team’s No. 3 rusher in the LSU run-heavy offensive attack.
LSU takes on the Arkansas Razorbacks in their rivalry game for the Golden Boot on Saturday.
