The Arkansas Razorbacks hosted the LSU Tigers Saturday night in a game that didn’t mean much except for the fact that Arkansas’ 17-0 win was their first SEC victory in over two years. It was also Arkansas’ first shut out victory since September of 2006. It’s the Razorbacks first SEC win since defeating Kentucky in October of 2012.

It’s the first time Arkansas took the Golden Boot rivalry win over LSU since 2010, and continues to try to close the gap in the Golden Boot era of the rivalry that began in 1996, as they now trail by just four games 11-7 in this portion of the rivalry.
Arkansas took a 10-0 lead going into the half against No. 17-ranked LSU after a 32-yard field goal and a rushing touchdown by Jonathan Williams. The Razorbacks kept it going in the second half with an Alex Collins rushing touchdown to make the score 17-0, and that would be the last score in the almost all-defensive game.
The strong Arkansas defense showed up Saturday night, holding LSU to 0 points and just 115 total yards, limiting Anthony Jennings to just 73 passing yards and the rushing attack to get just 42 on the ground. Arkansas also forced the only turnover of the game on a fourth quarter fumble by Jennings that was forced by Martrell Spaight.
LSU came into the game with low momentum after a heart breaking loss to Alabama last week in overtime. LSU had the 13-10 lead with under a minute left in regulation, but let Alabama march down the field and hit a short field goal to take it to overtime and then take the win in the first OT. LSU struggled the offensive side of the ball but played their typical tough defense only giving up BLANK total yards to Arkansas despite the 17 points.
Brandon Allen finished the game 16-for-27 with 169 passing yards. Jonathan Williams led Arkansas’ rushing attack with 49 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The win takes Arkansas to a 5-5 record, just one game away from a bowl berth and they’ll look to grab another SEC win in the coming weeks against Ole Miss and then Missouri.
LSU will likely find themselves outside of the top 25 after this second consecutive loss. They are now 7-4 and will look to get some momentum back in two weeks at Texas A&M.
