Georgia got a combined 282 yards and three touchdowns from running backs Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb as the 15th-ranked Bulldogs floored ninth-ranked Auburn 34-7.
Todd Gurley didn’t need too many carries to revert back to the Heisman-caliber form he was in before spending four weeks in the NCAA pokie, as Georgia workhorse ran for 137 yards and a touchdown to help lead the 15th-ranked Bulldogs to a 34-7 beatdown of ninth-ranked Auburn Saturday night.
While the attention was on Gurley, it was Nick Chubb — who replaced him in the lineup — that stood out as lead Dawg. Chubb racked up 145 yards and two scores, including an 11-yard touchdown run that capped the scoring with 5:41 left.
Unlike last year’s meeting there would be no last-minute miracles for Auburn, which lost its second straight along with whatever slim College Football Playoff hopes the Tigers may have held before the game. Along with the rest of us, Auburn will be watching how it plays out. The Tigers were held to just 290 yards and were unable to make the scoreboard blink after Cameron Artis-Payne’s 26-yard touchdown run gave them a 7-0 lead with 11:30 left in the first quarter.
Georgia’s key to victory? Simple: make Nick Marshall a non-factor. Marshall played as if a member of the Witness Protection Program, as he completely disappeared following the initial (and only) Auburn scoring drive. The Bulldogs held to just 41 yards rushing on nine attempts while limiting him to a paltry 111 yards passing on 11 of 23 attempts.
