The Northwestern Wildcats are hoping to pull off the major upset over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish but will have to avoid costly mistakes and turnovers on special teams to pull it off
Before the first quarter was even over from Notre Dame Stadium in the game between the Fighting Irish and the Northwestern Wildcats, we had seen a play that is so rare and uncommon that I can’t recall the last time I saw something like that happen.

The play was really a two-parter as Austin Collinsworth, the son of Chris Collinsworth recovered a Northwestern fumble 32 yards for the touchdown. You can watch the scoop and score here.
Part two was Northwestern blocking the extra point and returning it for two points.
How often do you see a defensive touchdown and then a PAT blocked and the other team gets two points?
So the net gain for Notre Dame on the touchdown was plus-four.

Notre Dame would extend their lead with a six-yard touchdown run from Tarean Folston to make it 20-9.
But Northwestern keeps fighting and scored a touchdown of their own to answer the score when Kyle Prater caught a four-yard score to make it a 20-16 game early in the second quarter.
