The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. Superstar Kobe Bryant had a particularly disappoinging game with a season-low nine-points, making just one of 14 shots.
If Bryant looked a little off to you, or like something was wrong, that’s because something was. Bryant was dealing with a viral infection.
From the Los Angeles Daily News:
"“He wasn’t feeling too well,” Lakers coach Byron Scott said. “Nothing physically as far as a knee or Achilles, but he’s not feeling well.”The Lakers said Bryant has a probable viral infection. Bryant was hardly as forthcoming, only revealing that he was “feeling achy” on Friday morning. But Bryant sounded ominous when asked if this illness is something he could overcome.“It’s the first I faced this type of challenge in my career,” said Bryant of his 19-years in the NBA. “Honestly I don’t know. I’l think about it and talk to the great team of therapists and figure it out.”"
In all the Bryant vs Michael Jordan comparisons, this poor showing when sick doesn’t stack up well against the flu game. Still, Bryant has to get credit for getting out there and playing.
I imagine a viral infection is harder to deal with than the flu.
