Well, there was a time when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were considered a legitimate College Football Playoff threat. Those thoughts are now gone, completely, after what happened on Saturday night.
Notre Dame suffered their third loss of the season on Saturday night, however, unlike their losses to good Florida State and Arizona State teams, this one to a 3-6 Northwestern team won’t be brushed to the side.
Yes, you read that correctly. 3-6 Northwestern took it to the Irish on Saturday, and they capped off their amazing outing with this 41-yard field goal from Jack Mitchell in overtime to get the win.

It was indeed a pretty good season for Notre Dame to this point, but this is a huge black eye on the 2014 campaign.
