Seattle Mariners‘ second baseman Robinson Cano injured his toe while playing for the MLB All-Stars during this month’s Japan Series.
There is currently a group of “MLB All-Stars” (scare quotes necessary) that is representing the American big leagues in the Japan Series. To say that things are not going well so far might be an understatement.

The All-Star team was no-hit by four Samurai Japan pitchers on Friday night, they have lost three straight games, and now one of the best-known players has a fractured toe.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that Robinson Cano suffered a fractured toe on a hit-by-pitch and will be out of action for three to four weeks:
"According to a source, Cano learned shortly thereafter that he has a non-displaced fracture of the pinkie toe on his right foot, the result of a Yuki Nishi pitch that hit him on the cleat. He will miss the remainder of the Japan Series."
Considering the fact that it is the middle of November, this should not affect Cano’s availability for Spring Training or any part of the 2015 season for the Mariners. Still, one imagines that the Mariners are not exactly enthusiastic about the fact that their $240 million man hurt himself playing in meaningless games that only a select number of people are even aware of.
Robinson Cano was outstanding in his first season with the Mariners, batting .314/.382/.454. As for the Japan Series, this takes arguably the biggest star off a team that was already interpreting the word “All-Star” in the most generous fashion.
