Melvin Gordon broke the single-game rushing record of 406 yards held by LaDainian Tomlinson set in 1999 against UTEP in the Wisconsin Badgers game against Nebraska

On one of the coldest days in Camp Randall history, Melvin Gordon was on fire as he set the single-game rushing record with 408 yards — in three quarters — against Nebraska as the Badgers running back ran into the record books.

Gordon broke the record on a 26-yard touchdown run to end the third quarter as he broke the record in style. Gordon had touchdown runs of 62, 1, 6 and 26 yards as he ran his way over, around and through the Cornhuskers defense who had no chance at slowing down the talented runner who also booked himself a ticket to New York for the Heisman ceremony next month.

Here is the record-breaking run.

The Badgers also took control of the Big Ten West with the win ( it’s 52-17 at time of publishing) and if they win out will likely see Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game where he may see another Heisman finalist in J.T. Barrett.

Gordon entered the game as the nation’s leading rusher and after setting the single-game record, he is going to break the 2,000-yard mark in Wisconsin’s next game and it should be interesting to see what he does for an encore next week against Iowa and Minnesota. He should have four more games as he looks to make a run at Barry Sanders single-season of 2,628 yards.

I’m not counting him out.
