The Dallas Cowboys could face difficult decisions with impending free agents Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray this off-season. If faced with the dilemma, they would use the franchise tag on Bryant over Murray.
Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys face some tough calls in free agency some this off-season. Namely, they have to balance the uncertainty of a running back’s long-term viability against the uncertainty of a volatile receiver with off-the-field issues.

For now, the Cowboys will ride DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant to what they hope is an NFC East title and a deep run into the playoffs. Then, once the NFL season concludes, they will have to decide which player to attempt to commit to.
Both players will command top money, Bryant in particular. There will be uncertainty with both players. If faced with the decision of slapping the franchise tag on one player or the other, the Cowboys would go with Bryant over Murray.
According to Ian Rapoport:
The unpredictability of running backs make Murray riskier in terms of a long-term investment. Even with the potential risks with Bryant and the price tag he will command, he will likely be the top priority for the Cowboys. If they need to use the franchise tag to keep him in Dallas for at least one more season, they will do just that.
