Arizona Coyotes netminder Devan Dubnyk makes the ninja save of the year
The Arizona Coyotes may have just found their golden ticket, and it’s a 6-foot-6 backup netminder tossed by his old franchise.

During the first period of the Coyotes’ game against the Edmonton Oilers, Dubnyk made what can only be described as the ninja save of the century when he flew out of his net and kicked the puck away nearly at his own blue line.
The play, which was made while the Coyotes were on the one-man advantage halfway through the period, ultimately worked in Arizona’s favor — the franchise was able to collect themselves in the Edmonton zone, and Portland call-up Brandon Gormley netted his first NHL career goal to bring the Coyotes to a 1-0 lead.
While Coyotes fans are celebrating this insane defensive play, though, the save was met with far less fanfare by any Toronto Maple Leafs fans watching — during their 6-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Saturday night, their own netminder attempted the same maneuver. Needless to say, James Reimer was nowhere near as successful as Dubnyk, and it resulted in another goal for the Sabres.
Dubnyk is coming off his first NHL career shutout with the Arizona Coyotes; he is playing in his second consecutive game in hopes that his momentum would carry over from the 5-0 win against Vancouver Friday night.
Should the Coyotes win tonight, they would pull ahead of the Colorado Avalanche; should they lose, they will fall to last in the Western Conference.
