The Los Angeles Dodgers are most likely to trade Andre Ethier in the MLB offseason.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are likely going to look to trade one of their outfielders this offseason, but there are differing opinions on which player they should look to trade. According to a report from Buster Olney of ESPN, the Dodgers appear most likely to trade Andre Ethier out of all of their trade candidates this offseason.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

Ethier has played all nine MLB seasons with the Dodgers, and was once thought of as a growing star in baseball. Unfortunately, he has fallen off in a pretty big way over the past couple of years and simply isn’t too terribly valuable at this point in time. Los Angeles could probably get a decent piece or two back in return for Ethier, but they aren’t going to get a top prospect or anything that they can look at as a major piece in the future.

Last season in 130 games with the Dodgers, Ethier compiled a .249 batting average to go along with four home runs and 42 RBI’s. Those aren’t impressive numbers by any stretch of the imagination, and potential trading partners aren’t going to be looking at those numbers too terribly favorably.

That being said, there is some past that Ethier has had that shows a lot of “star” potential. In 2009 with the Dodgers, for example, Ethier compiled a .272 batting average to go along with 31 home runs and 106 RBI’s. Those are the type of numbers that would get L.A. the type of big return that they likely would want from him. It has been awhile since he’s done that type of damage offensively, but his past numbers show that the potential is there.

It’s going to be a very intriguing offseason to keep an eye on the Dodgers and Ethier’s name in particular. There were plenty of trading partners for outfielders at the trading deadline, and both Ethier and Matt Kemp’s names came up in those trade talks. Expect to see the Dodgers make a trade involving one of their outfielders this offseason, and at this point in appears that Ethier is likely the odd man out.
