Melvin Gordon Jumps Near Top Of Heisman Race
By Hayden Kane
Wisconsin Badgers‘ running back Melvin Gordon was the star of college football on Saturday, and his strong showing has bumped him up near the top of the Heisman Trophy race.
What does 408 yards rushing and four touchdowns in one game do for you? It places you among the favorites for the Heisman Trophy, among other things.

Melvin Gordon was truly dominant as Wisconsin defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday night. Perhaps the most incredible part of his night is that he only needed 25 carries to rush for those 408 yards. That’s 16.3 yards per carry, boys and girls.
Besides helping his team win a key game, Gordon made a big jump in the race for the Heisman Trophy. He is now second to only Marcus Mariota in terms of odds to win the award.
Football seasons are short enough that one game can make that big a difference, especially a video game showing like Gordon’s against Nebraska. And it’s not as if his statistics over the course of the rest of the season have been subpar: Gordon now has 1,909 yards rushing with 23 touchdowns this season in total.
That kind of dominance could continue to push Gordon to the top of the Heisman race, making for an interesting decision between him and Mariota when the time comes.
