The Oakland Raiders apparently didn’t feel quite as comfortable waiting until the off-season to talk contracts with offensive tackle Khalif Barnes.

The 32-year-old California native has proven his value to the Raiders this season through versatility more than anything else. He may not be the team’s number one anywhere on the field, but he can fill in just about anywhere on the o-line when starters need time to get healthy.
Four games at right tackle and two as left guard have proven to the Raiders that Barnes deserves a spot on the roster next season, as well; they announced this weekend that he has signed a one-year extension with the team.
Although the terms of the deal are unknown, the one-year contract that kept him in Oakland for the 2014 season was worth a total $1.2 million in base salary, signing bonuses, and workout/incentive bonuses.
The Raiders have remained winless nine games into the season, but hope to break that streak Sunday afternoon against a 5-4 San Diego Chargers team. The Chargers are in the middle of a three-game losing streak; Oakland hopes whatever has been keeping them down will help them earn their first regular season victory in time for Thanksgiving.
