Regular losing stinks enough.

Even worse than regular losing, though? That’s easy — winning, heading to the locker room, then being told that your final shootout goal was disallowed; once you head back out to the ice, you miss this time around and end up having your win taken away.
That’s exactly what happened to the New York Rangers on Saturday night, though, when they lost 3-2 in the OT shootout to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Rangers truly thought they were heading back to MSG with a win when veteran defenseman Dan Boyle scored the final shootout goal on Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury; had they stuck around on the ice a little bit longer, though, they would have seen the linesmen asking to have the goal reviewed.
The reasoning?
Boyle’s initial shot had hit the left post; in order for the puck to have slipped in behind Fluery’s left skate, Boyle had tapped the puck with his stick one additional time.
Of course, you can’t shoot twice on a shootout goal. Any touches made to the puck by the shooting player once he’s made his first attempt at a goal are considered second shots, and count as a no-goal.
Sure enough, the win was taken back mere minutes later. The Penguins sent Brandon Sutter in to shoot; when his goal went in and Rick Nash’s answering attempt got blocked, the win was handed over to the home team.
Take a look: you’ll probably have to wait a while before you ever see a situation like this again.
