Philip Rivers Dealing With ‘Severe’ Rib Injury, Per Antonio Gates
By Scott Allen
According to San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, quarterback Philip Rivers a severe rib injury
The last time I checked, there has not been a tight end in the NFL that has doubled as a doctor or a public information officer.

However, after Sunday’s San Diego Chargers victory over the Oakland Raiders, apparently Chargers tight end Antonio Gates can play both roles.
Gates provided some injury report information on his quarterback, Philip Rivers. Note this is coming from him and nothing has been said about this from the team.
It is interesting he would provide this information to reporters.
So there you have it from Gates. As for what actually took place during the game, it wasn’t Rivers ribs but his knee that was being checked out. Per ProFootballTalk.com, Rivers had his knee examined by the team medical staff after taking a fall in the third quarter.
I don’t think Gates was referring to that. I have confidence in Gates knowing the difference between injured ribs and an injured knee.
For his part, Rivers did return to the game. Nothing at all has been said though about the injury by the team. A search of all media doesn’t show anything about Rivers’ ribs other than the quote from Gates.
Whatever is going on, the Chargers were able to get back to their winning ways on Sunday afternoon. They defeated the Oakland Raiders 13-6 in San Diego.
